Tour of Area Around Zenith Facility

Thurs Aug 8, 9:00AM @ Meet in front of Montgomery Ward Building in NW Portland (2757 NW Wardway, Portland)

We will hear the voices of the many groups who once lived and worked in historical river communities. We’ll car pool to the many forgotten sites and consider the policies that made this possible. This tour will visit the Zenith tar sands facility and several other sites in the area. Contact Sarah Taylor to register - Sarahsojourner@mac.com

Zenith Energy is an oil terminal in Portland that stores and ships fossil fuels, primarily to China. Their exports include dangerous tar sands from Canada, one of the most polluting forms of fuel. They pose a significant threat to our community, not just because of the obvious carbon emissions they generate, but because of the high risk of disaster should their bomb trains erupt, perhaps during the eventual Cascadia Fault earth quake.
